Doors open at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and pastries available for all attendees sponsored by Tessenderlo Kerley Inc. (TKI) and Valley Packline Solutions. There is no cost to attend the Showcase. The Showcase workshops will kick off at 8:00 a.m. with Strategies for Surviving SGMA. This workshop will be a discussion with water experts on practical strategies that citrus growers can take to proactively ensure the long-term viability of the industry within the new SGMA guidelines.
The second workshop is brought to you by the Citrus Research Board and will begin at 10:00 a.m. This workshop will cover How Citrus Research Informs the Regulatory Process and How the Current Regulations Affect the Citrus Industry. This panel discussion will provide updates on Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) and Huanglongbing (HLB) regulations and how they impact citrus growers including: quarantine zones, methods of fruit disinfestation (spray and move and mechanical), and citrus tarping. The panel will also discuss the new chlorpyrifos regulations. 0.5-hours of “laws and regulations” and 0.5-hours of “other” has been approved for Continuing Education (CE) units.
The third and final workshop will begin at 2:30 p.m. with Selling Citrus – It’s Not 2018 Anymore. This workshop will define and discuss the reasons why the 2018/2019 citrus season has been less than stellar from a sales and revenue perspective. The panel of sales personnel will talk about challenges, changes, and dynamics unforeseen last Fall, all of which could result in revenue per acre falling short of anticipated.
