Earlier this week, the County of Fresno Department of Agriculture announced the appointment of Melissa Cregan as the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures.  She was appointed by the County of Fresno Board of Supervisors on March 26th with a retroactive effective date of March 11, 2019.

Cregan holds a B.S. in Animal Science from UC Davis and brings 30+ years of experience in livestock and 12 years in civil service leadership. She grew up in the Chico area and was an early member of their local 4-H chapter for nine years and served as chapter president for two years. While in college, she worked at the campus livestock facilities and the feed mill, which led to her being recognized as one of four students to complete their Stallion Management Internship.

Cregan became an inspector in Madera County after graduating from UC Davis and was promoted to serve as Deputy Ag Commissioner first in Madera County and later Fresno County. As talks of her predecessor’s retirement loomed, she was named Assistant Ag Commissioner and served as interim Commissioner after his departure.
