Each year, CCM invites legislators and policy makers to participate in the “Citrus Stride”, a one-mile walk around the State Capitol benefitting community food banks throughout the state.  For every registered participant, CCM pledges to donate 1,000 pounds of citrus to the food banks during the following season. This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, May 15th and will feature the Pro Tem Toni Atkins as our kick-off speaker!

We started Citrus Stride as a way to connect with legislators and policy makers in Sacramento around a shared interest – ensuring people in our communities have access to the fresh, nutritious food.  Our vision for Citrus Stride is for it to be a bridge between citrus growers and government and an opportunity to showcase the ways our industry gives back to rural and urban communities alike.

This year, we are excited to incorporate a Citrus Market at the start/finish line area for participants to enjoy fresh California citrus and take home a sampling of oranges, lemons, mandarins, and grapefruit.

Citrus Stride continues to attract a growing number of participants and we need your help to create a memorable experience for members of the legislature and their staff.  Please consider supporting Citrus Stride in the following ways:

  1. Supply 5-10 empty cartons: Cartons will be used to create a Carton Wall that will showcase California citrus brands and labels. The display will be a prominent feature at the event and serve as the photobooth backdrop.
  2. Donate fruit to the event: We will contact you regarding quantity and varieties.
  3. VOLUNTEER at the Citrus Stride: We need volunteers to help pass out fruit at the Citrus Market and interact with the legislator and legislative staff who attend. All volunteers will be supplied with a Citrus Stride T-Shirt to wear during the event.  Volunteers are also encouraged to wear a hat, name tag, or other logo wear with their company’s name.

We’re very proud of Citrus Stride and the generosity of this industry (you!). Some would call Citrus Stride a “soft touch”. We prefer to call it an effective touch.

We hope you will consider being a part of Citrus Stride this year! If you have any questions, please contact CCM’s Director of Government Affairs Alyssa Houtby at (559) 592-3790 or  alyssa@cacitrusmutual.com.
