Earlier this week, CCM wrote a letter to the Office of U.S. Trade Representatives (USTR) urging them to focus on removing some barriers and allowing the citrus industry the opportunity to market into the EU. The letter explains that an immediate opportunity is not expected to manifest if the discussions are successful, but a pathway could be developed by eliminating competitive barriers.

The 3 barriers outlined in the letter included the EU’s Ag support program that gives their citrus growers both government support and the market pricing structure, the EU’s adoption of the precautionary principle for registering crop protection tools, and the tariff rate quotas and/or tariff schedules.
