Funding Available for Illegal Dumping Cleanup on Farm and Ranch Property

Farmers and ranchers dealing with illegal dumping, abandoned solid waste or waste tires on their property may be able to receive cleanup assistance through CalRecycle’s Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Cleanup and Abatement Grant Program. CalRecycle has $797,000 available for fiscal year 2026-27, with awards of up to $50,000 per cleanup site. To qualify, the waste must have been illegally dumped without the property owner’s authorization or consent.

Farmers and ranchers cannot apply for the funding directly. Applications must be submitted by an eligible entity, such as a city, county, resource conservation district or federally recognized Tribe, on behalf of a qualifying cleanup project.

Growers experiencing illegal dumping on their property should contact their city or county resource conservation district ASAP to make them aware of the issue and ask whether they can apply for funding to help cover the cleanup. Applications are due Oct. 7.
