New ACP Detections Confirmed in Kern County

Three new Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) detections were confirmed late last week in commercial citrus in Kern County. Two adult ACP were detected in separate traps in the Maricopa area, and a third adult ACP was found in a trap south of Arvin.

Following the detections, the ACP District (APCD) and CDFA surveyed the areas around the trap sites; no additional ACP were found at this time. Commercial citrus growers within the 800-meter treatment areas have been contacted and are prepared to make treatments. No other recent ACP detections have been reported in the southern San Joaquin Valley.

Growers are encouraged to remain vigilant as fall approaches, when ACP detections typically increase. New foliage flush is particularly attractive to ACP, making it important to closely scout new growth and orchard borders. Growers should also consider using ACP-effective materials when treating for other pests during the fall flush.
