Legislative Staff Tour Highlights California Citrus from Grove to Packinghouse

On Monday, August 24, California Citrus Mutual hosted legislative and local government staff for a tour of Porterville Citrus’ (PCI) Rayo facility and a nearby citrus grove. Staff from the offices of Congressman Jim Costa, Senator Melissa Hurtado, Assemblymember Alexandra Macedo, Assemblymember Stan Ellis, Senator Shannon Grove, and the Tulare County Board of Supervisors participated in the tour.

The visit provided staff with a firsthand look at California citrus from grove to packinghouse to consumer, including the work, technology, and resources required to grow, harvest, pack, and deliver fresh citrus to market. The tour also provided an opportunity to discuss issues affecting California citrus growers and the industry’s importance to the Central Valley.

We would like to thank PCI and their staff, and especially General Manager Ken Wileman, for hosting the group and sharing their time and expertise with attendees.
