CDFA Releases 2026 California Citrus Acreage Report

The California Department of Food and Agriculture, in cooperation with USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), released the 2026 California Citrus Acreage Report on August 5. The report provides updated statewide estimates as well as detailed acreage by citrus type, county, variety and year planted.

Statewide estimates for the 2024-25 season show 266,300 bearing citrus acres, including 110,000 acres of Navels and miscellaneous oranges, 68,000 acres of mandarins, 54,000 acres of lemons, 25,000 acres of Valencias and 9,300 acres of grapefruit. Compared with the previous season, lemon acreage increased by 1,000 acres, while grapefruit and Valencia acreage declined slightly. Navel and mandarin acreage remained unchanged.

The data also highlights the Central Valley’s contribution to California citrus production. Tulare County accounts for more than 62,000 acres of Navels and miscellaneous oranges and nearly 27,000 acres of mandarins and hybrids, while Kern County accounts for more than 23,000 acres of Navels and 22,000 acres of mandarins.

NASS notes that the detailed figures are based on a voluntary survey of approximately 4,300 citrus growers and may not capture all California citrus acreage. The survey was funded by the California citrus industry.
