Last week, CCM’s Scholarship Committee met to discuss and select the winners of our three scholarships, which are awarded each year to students pursuing a career or vocation in agriculture. This year, we had a number of outstanding students apply, which made the committee’s decision difficult. After much discussion and interviews with the top-selected students for each of the three scholarships, the committee ultimately awarded Travis Smith, Luke Fisher, and Hank Nuefeld as the recipients. Each of these students was selected for a combination of their excellent academic and extracurricular achievements, essay submissions, and virtual interviews.

Harrison B. Smith Scholarship – Travis Smith
Travis Smith is the recipient of the Harrison B. Smith Scholarship, awarded each year to a Cal Poly ag student. Travis is currently pursuing a double major in Agribusiness and Agricultural Systems Management. He is deeply involved in extracurricular and leadership activities at Cal Poly, including serving as the National President and Regional Director of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and as the President of the Cal Poly Young Cattlemen’s Association. Congratulations to Travis, and we wish him the best as he continues his education.

Charles Coggins Scholarship – Hank Neufeld
Hank Neufeld is the recipient of the Charles Coggins Scholarship. He is attending Clemson University to pursue a degree in agricultural mechanics and business. Hank has extensive work experience in different areas of agribusiness, including harvest implement operator for Pecans in Georgia and almonds in California, irrigation repair and maintenance in citrus, water sampling, and more. Best of luck to Hank and his future endeavors.

High School Scholarship – Luke Fisher
The High School Scholarship was awarded to Luke Fisher. Luke is a recent graduate of Bakersfield Christian High School and will be attending Texas Tech in the fall. He plans to pursue a degree in ag business and hopes to return to work on his own family’s citrus operation upon completing his education. We want to congratulate Luke and wish him all the best as he works towards his degree.
