DPR Legislative Accountability Reporting and Progress on Pesticide Reevaluations

California Citrus Mutual supported budget funding to expand the California Department of Pesticide Regulation’s (DPR) pesticide reevaluation efforts and successfully advocated for legislative reporting requirements as a key accountability measure. Because a significant portion of DPR’s funding comes from grower-paid mill assessments, CCM pushed for greater transparency regarding how those dollars are being spent and what progress is being made

The reports, as required by Assembly Bill 2113, which DPR is now required to submit to the Legislature, are intended to ensure that DPR uses those resources effectively, advances reevaluations in a timely manner, and provides stakeholders with a clearer understanding of the department’s ongoing work.

DPR recently released a new report detailing its efforts to improve the efficiency of the state’s pesticide reevaluation process. Reevaluation is one of the tools DPR uses to review registered pesticides when additional scientific information is needed or when new concerns arise, allowing the department to determine whether additional protections or use restrictions are warranted.

As of June 2026, DPR reports that it has seven pesticide reevaluations, two risk assessments, and ten mitigation efforts currently underway. Under AB 2113, DPR is required to initiate at least one pesticide reevaluation each year, increasing to two per year beginning in 2029.
