Chile Launches 2026 Citrus Exports to U.S.

Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), together with Frutas de Chile, officially launched the 2026 citrus export season to the U.S. from the Coquimbo phytosanitary inspection site, according to a recent SAG news release. Authorities emphasized the site’s importance for meeting U.S. import protocols, particularly amid ongoing fruit fly outbreaks affecting parts of the region.

Public-private coordination (SAG, industry, and USDA) is being used to maintain export flows, including potential authorization to inspect fruit from both regulated and pest-free zones. Chilean officials signaled confidence that exports will continue despite pest pressures, with mitigation measures and safeguards in place.

Throughput at the Coquimbo inspection site rose sharply in 2025, with an 82.6% increase y/y. This highlights the growing export volumes to the U.S. According to Trade Data Monitor, Chile’s 2025 exports of citrus fruit to the U.S. reached approximately 413,900 MT valued at $384 million.
