CCQC Update: Vietnam Opens Mandarin Market

Earlier this week, the California Citrus Quality Council (CCQC) notified the industry that Vietnam has opened its market to mandarin exports from California. According to the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Vietnamese officials have said they are issuing import permits effective immediately.

CCQC has been working with APHIS since 2015 to open the Vietnamese market to California citrus. CCQC hosted a technical visit for three Vietnamese inspectors in January to evaluate the California citrus industry’s mandarin production and packing processes. The Vietnamese market is already open for oranges and grapefruit, so only lemons remain to be approved. Vietnam’s Production and Plant Protection Department is currently evaluating the request for market access for lemons.
