U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has announced that USDA will purchase up to $30 million in fresh citrus through the Agricultural Marketing Service’s Section 32 program to support American growers and provide healthy fruit to food banks across the country.
The purchase includes:
- Fresh Oranges – $15 million
- Grapefruit – $10 million
- Mandarins – $5 million
These buys help stabilize markets during periods of surplus and provide important support for U.S. citrus producers facing strong competition from foreign imports.
Casey Creamer, President/CEO of California Citrus Mutual, praised the announcement:
“We appreciate Secretary Rollins and USDA for recognizing the challenges facing U.S. citrus growers and for making this investment at a critical time in our season. This purchase not only helps strengthen returns for growers, but also brings nutritious, American-grown citrus to families who need it most.”
CCM will share additional details with growers as AMS releases purchasing specifications.
