The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has introduced the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) to assist farmers affected by natural disasters in 2023 or 2024. The program will roll out in two stages. Stage 1, effective July 10, 2025, is open to producers who previously received crop insurance or Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) coverage. Eligible applicants can submit prefilled applications in person at their local FSA office or by mail. Payments may cover up to 90% of losses, with a 35% payment factor applied. To retain funds, recipients must purchase crop insurance or NAP coverage at a rate of 60% or higher for the next two crop years.
Stage 2, expected this fall, will address uninsured, shallow, and quality losses not covered by other programs.
Eligible Losses Must Be From:
- Drought (D2 for 8+ weeks or D3+ intensity per U.S. Drought Monitor)
- Freeze events
- Excessive rain or moisture
- Hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, derechos, and more
Losses must be previously reported through crop insurance or NAP and may include crops, trees, and vines.
Payment Details:
- Based on your crop insurance or NAP coverage level
- Reduced by any prior indemnities received
- Subject to a 35% SDRP payment factor
- A second payment may be issued if funds remain
