Trump to Nominate America First Policy Leader for USTR Chief Ag Negotiator

According to sources close to the White House, President Trump will nominate Doug Hoelscher as chief agricultural negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). Hoelscher is yet another member of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) – the Trump-aligned think tank founded by now Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins – now stepping into government roles. However, Hoelscher will need to be confirmed by the Senate before assuming the role.

At AFPI, he led the American Leadership Initiative, which developed a strategy to quickly execute the president’s policy agenda after taking office. Before his time at AFPI, Hoelscher served as the deputy director of White House intergovernmental affairs and then as assistant to the president for intergovernmental affairs during the first Trump Administration.
