Board of Directors Visits Sacramento for Annual Government Relations Trip

Last week, CCM staff and Directors headed to our state capitol for our annual government relations trip. The goal of this trip is to educate legislators and agency staff on the important role citrus plays in the state, the challenges growers face, and what our top priorities are. The trip is also an important relationship-building exercise, which is a vital piece of CCM’s strategic plan and puts a face to the growers we and our lobbying team represent in Sacramento.

With a large class of freshman legislators, it was good to establish ourselves as a credible voice for the industry for those with citrus in their districts. It was also a chance for Directors to reconnect with those we already have established relationships with on past trips and events.

During our time in Sacramento, the team met with the Department of Pesticide Regulation’s new Director, Dr. Karen Morrison, the Ag Labor Relations Board Chair, Victoria Hassid, CDFA Plant Health and Pest Prevention Services Division Director Victoria Hornbaker, and CDFA Secretary Karen Ross.

We also meet with many legislators with citrus in their districts during our visit to the Capitol offices and our legislative dinner, including Assemblymembers Alexandra Macedo, Jacqui Irwin, Jeff Gonzalez, Joaquin Arambula and Dr. Jasmeet Bains, and Senators Melissa Hurtado and Monique Limon.
