Argentina Citrus Federation Publishes Industry Statistics

Argentina’s Federation of Citrus Producers recently published its 2024 Citrus Activity report. According to the report, Argentina exported approximately 282,000 tons of citrus last year, a significant decline from 360,000 tons in 2022 and following a downward trend over the past decade. Argentina’s citrus export industry has been constrained by low profitability, rising costs, dollar inflation, and a competitive international market.

Lemon exports fell 7% to 220,890 tons, while shipments of mandarins and oranges declined 41% and 50% to 25,652 tons and 35,080 tons, respectively. Argentina’s 2023 lemon exports were primarily accounted for by the EU (74,991 tons) and Russia (35,712 tons). Despite the export decline, lemon (2.32 million tons) and orange (1.06 million tons) production were the highest in the past decade, with Argentina accounting for 21% of global lemon production.
