On September 16, 2024, the California Department of Food and Agriculture announced the expansion of the HLB quarantine in San Diego County. The positive sample was taken from one mandarin tree in a residential neighborhood in the Fallbrook area. This detection establishes a mandatory HLB quarantine area with a five-mile radius around the find site. The quarantine prohibits the movement of all host nursery stock, host plants and plant parts within a five-mile radius of the find site. View the quarantine map here.
This detection will also place additional parts of San Diego County into Bulk Citrus Regional Quarantine Zone 6, which requires any commercial citrus growers in the area to apply additional mitigations before citrus is transported into or out of the HLB quarantine. Visit CitrusInsider.org’s Map and Quarantines page for more details.
Growers in San Diego County should contact Grower Liaison Sandra Zwaal at szwaal2@gmail.com for additional information about these detections.
