By Jacob Villagomez, Director of Governmental Affairs
Last week, I concluded CCM’s final visit to Washington D.C. before the lame duck session, which will commence following the presidential election on November 5, 2024. While there, I met with the staffs of Representatives Doug LaMalfa, Vince Fong, Barbara Lee, Ken Calvert, Darrell Issa, David Valadao, and Jim Costa. I informed them of the upcoming season’s outlook and the importance of the Farm Bill’s passage, including the continuation of vital HLB coordination and prevention programs currently stuck in the House appropriations process.
I also had the opportunity to connect with U.S.-Wide commodity groups during the sessions at the International Fresh Produce Association’s (IFPA) U.S Government Relations Council’s Policy Retreat in National Harbor, Maryland. The policy retreat included various discussions surrounding IFPA’s progress with U.S. government affairs, the Farm Bill, and improvements the organization can make in the coming years.
