On July 29, 2024, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced the removal of the Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) quarantine in the Thousand Oaks area of Ventura and Los Angeles counties. The removal comes as a relief for Ventura County citrus growers affected by the stringent regulations put in place to eradicate the pest.
This quarantine removal follows several other fruit fly quarantines in California, which have been lifted in recent months thanks to the ongoing efforts of CDFA with the help of the Citrus Pest and Disease Prevention Program (CPDPP). In light of the forward progress being made to irradicate exotic fruit flies throughout the state, we are hopeful that the remaining quarantines will continue to be lifted in the coming months.
The Oriental Fruit Fly quarantine in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, which has significantly impacted citrus growers in that area over the past year, is still effective. We will continue to keep members updated on any progress made.
