CCM Visits D.C.’s Capitol Hill

Last week, California Citrus Mutual CEO Casey Creamer and Director of Governmental Affairs Jacob Villagomez participated in the International Fresh Produce Association’s (IFPA) Washington Conference. In addition to the conference, they met with staffers of Senator Laphonsa Butler and Representatives Adam Schiff, Darrell Issa, David Valadao, Barbara Lee and Pete Aguilar. They also participated in meetings with newly minted Representative Vince Fong and the Ranking Member of the Senate Ag Committee, Senator Debbie Stabenow.

Creamer and Villagomez stressed the importance of passing a Farm Bill and provided updates on the various fruit fly quarantines in the members’ corresponding congressional districts. They also met with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) to stress the importance of Section 32 purchases for citrus commodities due to increasing imports affecting domestic markets, impending trade disputes, and the ever-changing climate affecting crop estimates and growing conditions.
