Bipartisan Push for USDA Citrus Purchases

After a record wet year and heavy citrus thrips pressure, a congressional letter was circulated to request that USDA authorize Section 32 purchases of high-quality USDA Grade #2 California navels to alleviate some of the market impacts that will be seen on the approaching season. CCM would like to thank House Representatives Doug LaMalfa, Josh Harder, Julia Brownley, Barbara Lee, Salud Carbajal and Jimmy Panetta for their support as well as Jim Costa and David Valadao for their leadership on this issue. With estimates expressing a 15% increase in USDA Grade #2 fruit entering the marketplace than would normally occur in a typical season, this request would help provide stability to growers, alleviate market pressure, and provide high-quality products into our food bank networks.
