The new California COVID-19 Non-Emergency Standard is now in effect and will stay effective for two years, until February 3, 2025, and recordkeeping will be required for three years, until February 3, 2026.
Changes to the definition of close contact is now defined by the size of the workplace as follows:
- For indoor spaces of 400,000 or fewer cubic feet per floor, close contact is defined as sharing the same airspace as a COVID-19 case for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period during the COVID-19 case’s infectious period regardless of the use of face coverings.
- For indoor spaces greater than 400,000 cubic feet per floor, close contact is defined as being within six feet of a COVID-19 case for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period during the COVID-19 case’s infectious period regardless of the use of face coverings.
The infectious period for COVID-19 cases who develop symptoms is defined as the following:
- From two days before the date of symptom onset until
- Ten days have passed after symptoms first appeared, or through day five if testing negative on day five or later, and
- Twenty-four hours have passed with no fever, without the use of fever reducing medications and symptoms have improved.
Employers need to implement new Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP) that address COVID-19 as a workplace hazard. More information about this new regulation can be found here. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jacob Villagomez at jacob@cacitrusmutual.com.
