Yesterday CCM hosted the first Update on Labor Laws and Regulations Workshop. The program was led by workplace law experts – Zenith Insurance Safety and Health Consultant Bill Krycia, and Fisher and Phillips Employment Attorney and Partner Benjamin Ebbink. Thanks to the participation of attendees and the knowledge of our speakers the workshop was highly informative and interactive.
Ben Ebbink covered new laws and regulations that apply to agricultural workplaces, including updates to hour and wage regulations, paid leave, I-9 employment eligibly and independent contractors. He also covered common errors employers make regarding arbitration, meals, rest, documentation and recordkeeping and how employers can avoid making mistakes.
The second half of the workshop was led by Bill Krycia. As a former Cal/OSHA employee Bill provided a great review of the organization’s updates, inspections, enforcement trends and resources available to employers. Topics covered included Cal/OSHA surprise inspections, required prevention programs and on the ground safety practices. Attendees also learned about updates on the horizon for Cal/OSHA including new indoor heat safety requirements, workplace violence prevention, permanent infectious disease/COVID programs and changes to the first aid standard.
You can view Ben and Bill’s presentations from the workshop here. This presentation includes links to resources that employers may find helpful when updating their own safety programs.
If you have further questions regarding updates to labor laws and regulations, you may contact Ben Ebbink at bebbink@fisherphillips.com or Bill Krycia at wkrycia@thezenith.com.
We would like to thank our sponsors, Zenith Insurance and Fisher and Phillips, for making this event possible. Based on positive feedback and participation we are planning to host more workshops like this in the future.
