It was great to have such a strong showing for the 2022 Citrus Showcase! We made a commitment last year to put on the event regardless of potential COVID restrictions and I’m glad we did. It was a great day of networking with colleagues and strengthening relationships.
Dr. Roland Fumasi kicked off the Chairman’s Breakfast with an informative presentation on the cost drivers that are affecting our business. As the head of RaboBank’s research arm, Dr. Fumasi is constantly tracking the economic outlook of their agricultural investments and his outlook on the citrus industry certainly stimulated deeper conversations that are continuing to be had around the future of our industry as cost and market pressures persist.
We were honored that Ambassador Eleni Kounalakis, the Lieutenant Governor of California shared her perspectives on trade and agriculture as our keynote speaker. Eleni is someone who understands the role of business in California after leading a major development company for 18 years, before entering the world of politics for the first time as the Lieutenant Governor.
We were able to spend a lot of time with her and her time leading up to and during the event to share the industry’s challenges around trade and water. She gave us the opportunity to tell your stories and strengthen the relationship with someone who will undoubtedly have an expanded role in the future on the decisions that affect your livelihoods.
