California Port Congestion

Joint Meeting of CA Assembly Agriculture Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Ports and Goods Movement:

On 2/2/22 members of the California State Assembly convened to discuss supply chain issues and port congestion ravaging California Agriculture—resulting in a loss of $2.5B worth in export opportunities. Panelists provided an overview of the impacts on the agriculture industry, exports, and potential solutions. Assemblymembers looked to solutions imbedded in Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-19-21 and called for more tangible solutions.

USDA Seeks to Ease Port Congestion:

On, 1/31/22 U. S Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack announced plans to increase capacity at the Port of Oakland and improve service for shippers of U.S. grown agricultural commodities. The partnership between USDA and the Port of Oakland seeks deploy a new 25-acre “pop-up” site to make it easier for agricultural companies to fill empty shipping containers with commodities.
