The CAFB Farm to Family Program (F2F) accepts donations of fresh produce year-round for distribution to 41 food banks across the state who then supply community foodbanks and other small feeding centers. The only region not covered by F2F is Monterey, which is covered by the Monterey County Food Bank.
F2F may also purchase produce items at rates comparable to a 2nd market price. For citrus, the second market price is based on the juice price and is currently $0.05 per pound. Donations are eligible for a state tax credit of 15% of the wholesale value and a Federal tax deduction.
F2F is a full-service program and will coordinate with you to prepare a shipment for pick up and distribution to the food banks. Additionally, for donated product, they will provide all necessary documentation for your State tax credit and Federal tax deduction.
The food banks are experiencing a significant increase in demand due to COVID-19. If for some reason the F2F program is unable to accept your donation or purchase your fruit , they will help connect you with a local food bank that can. There are no size or quality standards, but they do ask that the fruit be durable enough to withstand transportation and re-packing.
