Governor Newsom Signs Clean Drinking Water Legislation

The Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Act was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday at a special signing ceremony at a residence in Sanger.  Governor Newsom was joined by Senator Bill Monning (Carmel), Senator Melissa Hurtado (Sanger), and Assembly Richard Bloom (Santa Monica) and local community members.

SB 200 (Monning), the legislation creating the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund, was achieved through an unprecedented partnership between a diverse group of stakeholders, legislators, and the Administration and is a comprehensive solution that will provide critically needed funds for drinking water projects in affected communities throughout the state.

California Citrus Mutual has worked closely with other members of the agriculture industry and the environmental justice community over the course of many years on this issue.  While it has not been an easy road getting to this point, we believe SB 200 is the best possible outcome for all stakeholders.

CCM thanks SB 200’s lead authors Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella), and Assemblyman Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica), and principal coauthors Senate Leader Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), Senator Anna Caballero (D-Salinas), Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), and Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood), as well as many others who worked to pass the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund.
