Another Successful Citrus Stride!

Yesterday we held our 4th Annual Citrus Stride Event at the State Capitol and the unexpected rain did not stop Legislators and staffers from joining us outside for this great cause! Each year CCM holds this 1-mile walk around the State Capitol benefitting community food banks throughout the state and to raise awareness of the hunger needs in California.

This year the Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins joined us onstage to kick off the event. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of giving our Food Banks access to fresh healthy citrus and praised the citrus industry for partnering with the Food Banks to make this happen.

This was the first year creating a Citrus Market for participants to enjoy fresh citrus at the end of their walk and it was a huge success! We were able to display many of our local labels and had some of our citrus growers there to answer any questions about the varieties handed out. The participants loved being able to take a bag of fresh citrus back to their office with them and are already excited about attending again next year.

By holding this event, we are able to connect with Legislators and policy makers in Sacramento by focusing on a common concern for all of us; the hunger needs of our community. The citrus industry does a great job at supplying fresh citrus to the Food Banks in California and CCM is excited to help expand this and highlight the positive impact the industry is making.
